Others said and sang soft many times
But, friend, I'll tell you once again
That just like morning follows night time
You'll see bright sunshine follows rain

I am reaching out to help you
When you're hungry, sad or cross
When you're jangled, feel frustrated
Or stunned by a recent loss

At night look up at starry skies
And see the twinkling stars
They shine and glow in darkness
Think how peace and dancing follow wars

Let me tell you, you've a choice
Soothe your distress and pick the best
You can smooth the harshest voice
With words of love or just 'God bless'

My hand reaches out to help you
Through the centuries of good and bad times
I have worked hard choosing perfect words
Found striking rhythms, lovely rhymes

Yes, I've sent my words to comfort
I've saved my moment of hope
Send you my love and affection
To help you to smile and cope

To cancel out the thought of crime
Any one good time will serve
Remember, count the good times
They bring rewards that you deserve

Recall happy moments, little triumphs
To wipe out, forget the ugly scars
Recall just starry days of childhood
Unquenched, they still twinkle from afar

Keep those small stars gently shining
Like undimmed stars in the dark sky
Which forever light our darkness
Though we're low, they're bright and high

Yes, those stars glow far away
You and I see them in the dark
Just watch one tiny twinkling star
Rise like slow balloons, breathe, lift your heavy heart

Experience has taught you
Sunny days will come again
That morning follows night-time
Pretty flowers will drink the rain

They've moved away, gone away, passed away,
They've passed on, for those you have left be strong
Night's over, tomorrow's a sunny day

Traffic thunders on like heartless drum
The sun will still shine, the music play
Friends and strangers and the postmen will come
Some send words of comfort, promise they'll pray

All sympathise, a few know what to say
Some chatter far too loud, others are dumb
"Don't think of a just one, single, sad last day
Think of the love and the laughter and the fun

"Think of them laughing, think of their words
(You'll only remember the good in a while)
Of the wise, silly and witty words heard
Your happiest moments, picture their smile."

The Little Axolotl

The little axolotl
Has got a lot of bottle
You see him swim and corkscrew past
Going at full throttle

My friend Charlie bought a pair
He'd time and money going spare
I ask if he's good news to share
About this rare but breeding pair

'though axolotls are quite small
They do not think so, not at all
They have only one simple wish
To not end up your bed-time dish

They want to live and not to die
That's why you see them flashing by
Going at full throttle
Those little axolotl.

Numbering My Songs - why?

Why do you need to number songs? Or pieces of music? Or photos? Or anything?

1 Because names and titles change.
2 Because you may have two with the same title or name.
3 Because you wish to keep track of the total number you have.
4 Because it's quickest to find recent items by number and find items in order of composition by number.

I'm starting at 50 because I probably have 50 songs already. I certainly have 300 or more poems but a poem is not a song.

A song has repetition so it's easy for the singer to remember and rot the audience to join in the chorus and hum it along afterwards.

Who inspires me? Dolly Parton, prolific and cheerful songwriter.
