Why do you need to number songs? Or pieces of music? Or photos? Or anything?
1 Because names and titles change.
2 Because you may have two with the same title or name.
3 Because you wish to keep track of the total number you have.
4 Because it's quickest to find recent items by number and find items in order of composition by number.
I'm starting at 50 because I probably have 50 songs already. I certainly have 300 or more poems but a poem is not a song.
A song has repetition so it's easy for the singer to remember and rot the audience to join in the chorus and hum it along afterwards.
Who inspires me? Dolly Parton, prolific and cheerful songwriter.
